物語のあらすじ：
主人公Santiagoはスペインの羊飼いの少年。羊の毛を売ったり、羊の肉を売ったりして生活している。
Santiagoは夢の中で、少年に手を引かれてピラミッドに行き、宝を見つける夢を見る。
いつものようにAndalusiaという町に仕事で訪れた際に、Gipsyの占い師の女性に夢の話をして手相を見てもらうと、「ピラミッドに行き宝を見つけろ」と告げられる。
その日の夕方、町の丘でピラミッドについて考えていると、ある老人に声を掛けられ、「Personal Legend」や「Language of the world」などの話を聞き、ピラミッドに向かうことに決める。
そこから、Santiagaがスペインから海を渡り、アフリカ大陸に着き、砂漠を超えて、目的地であるエジプトのピラミッドにたどり着くまでの出来事や、人々との出会いの中で、Santiagoが「Treasure」、「Personal Legend」、「Language of the world」を見つける物語。

個人的な感想
物語の舞台は、スペインから海を渡ってアフリカ大陸に行き、砂漠を超えてエジプトまで進んでいく。その道中に、アフリカ大陸の港町や丘の上にあるクリスタルショップ、砂漠の夜やオアシスなど、詩的で美しい言葉から、その情景が鮮やかに頭の中に浮かんできて、本を読みながらその世界に没頭することができた。まるでその道中を旅しているような気持になった。
また物語の色々な場面で、Truthに刺さるフレーズが多く散りばめられており、「Personal Legend」、「Universal Language of the world」、「Treasure」など、言葉は異なるが、自分が既に持っている概念と点と点がつながる感覚がして、この世界の本質(真理)への理解が更に深まった。
また物語の道中で、Santiagoは3回も無一文になったり、エジプトへ行く方法を見失ったり、1年間クリスタルショップで働くことになったり、砂漠で兵士に殺されそうになったりと、迷いや苦労を経験したが、元の場所に戻ることなく前に進んだ。その姿がたくましくて勇気を与えてくれる。
